Poem: Walking meditation

walking

slowly

one step
two

pause

the sidewalk sprouts dandelion greens
and clover
in the cracks

resume

walking

slowly

one step
two

pause

with eyes closed the trees sing
listen
to the shaft of light

resume

walking

slowly

one step
two

pause

hush

hush

hush

pause

resume

walking

slowly

one step
two

pause

breathing breath of breezes
inhaling

slowly

one breath
two

resume

walking

slowly

SPAM poetry

I got completely distracted this evening after dinner from things I should be working on and instead went digging through my email inbox to see what might be poetically lurking there in the subject lines. Hopefully pursuing a bit of nonsense will help me find my way back into actual sense. Here’s hoping, anyway. 😉 So, I give to you ….

Poem: Nature’s Heartache

The following was written as a response poem in opposites to this earlier poem, A Day in the Country. I suppose I could’ve titled this one “Twilight in the City” but it just felt like it was such a heartfelt cry of woe from the standpoint of the natural environment.

Space Needletwilight in the city
attendant to the mingling common
a certainty of disenchantment
frigid waste of dusk
the insignificance
the confusion
the familiarity of milling downtown
a civilized behaved seriousness
possessed of costume
an autumn drought is
an uncharged corruption
loosened over granite
asphalt, a numbing cradle
soulful inertia
discharged in concrete
intellectual chill
distastefully troubled by
the hot failure of
the stagnant breath
the blind and sulky silence
of the city
each crowd indefinite
obliged and foul
